Emotional Intelligence (or Emotional Quotient (EQ)) is not a new phenomena although it was only in the mid-90s that it became more widely discussed outside the field of psychology by mainstream writers and others.
The psychologist Daniel Goleman has long advocated the business case for EQ in the workplace. Leaders with high emotional intelligence are more likely to stay calm under pressure, resolve conflict effectively and respond with empathy in order to cultivate excellent relationships.
